Il restauro della Cappella della Sindone nel Duomo di Torino, uno dei capolavori indiscussi dell’architettura barocca, rappresenta l’esempio forse più rappresentativo del dibattito italiano di questo secolo sulle metodologie e sulle tecniche della conservazione dell’architettura storica. L’articolo riassume la storia di un lunghissimo cantiere e dei suoi protagonisti che ha permesso, dopo ventotto anni, la riapertura del monumento.

The restoration of the Chapel of the Holy Shroud in Turin’s Cathedral, an undisputed masterpiece of Baroque architecture, is probably the most representative example of the debate over the methods and techniques of conservation of historic architecture that has taken place in Italy in the last century. The paper offers a brief insight into its long restoration project and its protagonists ,until the recent reopening of the monument after 28 years of works.
