SEISMIC IMPROVEMENT WITH STAINLESS STEEL STRANDS

The North tower of the Castle of Compiano

The article describes the seismic improvement of the North tower of the castle of Compiano (PR), which had great vertical slots caused by the horizontal thrusts exerted by the level dome, which is collocated near the deck of the attic.
The peculiarity of the operation has concerned the laying, at different rates of the tower, of reinforced belts which are composed of stainless steel strands, embedded inside the grouting of mortar and bound to the perimeter walls of the Castle through the stainless steel bars M16, inserted inside bulbs made of lime mortar. The effectiveness of the anchorage system was verified by load tests in situ.
